Numismatic definitions

Like most fields of expertise, numismatics has its own lingo. Find the numismatic definition of a term by entering it in the field below.

Tombac

Type of brass alloy with a high copper content, used in coinage requiring a rich golden colour. It is, in fact, a modern version of the aurichalcum used by the Romans. It was used for the Canadian 5-cent coins of 1942-43, while 5- and 10-pfennig coins of Germany have a tombac cladding on a steel core.
