Specie
Financial term denoting money in the form of precious metals (silver and gold) usually struck as coin as opposed to money in the form of paper notes and bills of exchange. It occurs in the name of some European coins (eg, speciedaler, speciestaler and speciesducat) to denote the use of fine silver or gold.
