Term applied to sets of medals of a thematic character, which first became fashionable in the early eighteenth century. Jean Dassier pioneered the medallic senes in the 1720s with his set of 2 medals portraying the rulers of France until Louis XV. The idea was developed bv J.Kirk, Sir Edward Thomason, J.Mudie and A.
