Term denoting two different categories:
- coins which have been pierced for suspension as a form of jewellery or talisman
- coins which have a hole as part of their design. In the latter category come the Chinese cash with a square hole, and numerous issues of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries from many countries, with the object of reducing weight and metal without sacrificing overall diameter.
